Part of the Carlsberg Group, Britvic encompasses 39 brands, including some of the world’s favourite soft drinks—Pepsi, J20 and Robinsons, to name a few. Read on to find out how S4 Engineering successfully implemented the design, supply and installation of a capacity and capability increase for Britvic’s site effluent handling system.

The brief: Expand the capacity of the effluent plant by an additional 1/3.
To cope with increasing demand, Britvic sought our support to expand the capacity of their effluent plant by 1/3. With over 10 years of experience providing end-to-end process engineering services, we were up for the challenge. One of the concerns was that our upgrade work wouldn’t impact their current operations, which we factored into our plans.
The solution: Staged move of existing plant to accommodate expansion.
Design, supply, and install of an additional 50,000-litre bulk storage tank and associated plant, including:
- Flow and return pipework
- A 4th dosing channel in the treatment container
- Buffer tanks for both caustic and acid
- Upgrades to all existing pumps.
We integrated and updated the current plant.
All new pipework was designed and fabricated to keep the staged move unintrusive on site.
As the equipment was key to production, planning and executing the moving of all three existing 50,000-litre bulk tanks was done over weekends to avoid downtime. Our team also put interim solutions in place while work was ongoing to avoid disruption to the effluent tanker during downtime.
The result: Plant capacity increased by a third.
- Capacity up by 1/3 to meet new production needs
- Existing plant updated to handle increased volume
- S4 worked around production times to ensure no downtime
- Still taking up the same area on site, making it an unintrusive upgrade.
Britvic’s production capacity increased by a third to meet ambitious new production targets. S4’s team meticulously worked around production schedules, focusing on key equipment upgrades without causing any downtime. With a minimal footprint, the upgraded plant occupies the same area on site, maintaining a smooth and unintrusive operation.
This isn’t the only project Britvic entrusted to us—we also installed a new syrup feed system to meet new product specifications. Discover our food and beverage processing equipment and processing solutions to see how we could support the goals and requirements of your plant.
