When the team was approached by a bestselling British yogurt brand (Tims) to support their factory expansion, we couldn’t wait to delve in and support their efforts. Before we made their growth goals a reality, we had a lot of planning to do. discovering more about this huge undertaking and successful design and installation of a dairy processing facility.
The brief: Integrate a full factory worth of equipment into an existing factory
Our job was to fit the whole factory with new dairy processing equipment into the existing facility. A lot of planning went into doing this to ensure that the equipment fitted well, which meant the whole project was to be a huge undertaking for the team. We were more than happy to take on and run with it!
The solution: All equipment installed without impacting factory operations
The biggest restriction or challenge for our team was physical space. Tims Dairy needed everything installed, while keeping in mind access for maintenance and operation of new and existing plants throughout the whole factory.
All equipment was installed in the small space around the existing dairy equipment, while keeping the existing plant functional and accessible. To ensure no plant interruption or downtime, our team worked evenings and weekends. We worked closely with the production and senior management team throughout to keep things running smoothly.
We installed 6 x 40ft transporters full of kit which consisted of:
- Mixing vessels
- High pressure homogenisers
- Heat exchangers
- Pumps
- Valves
- Control panels and systems
- Pipework
- Compressors
This was not just an installation project, we designed and project managed the entire factory expansion for Tims. We took into account custom platforms, pipework, services and layout to fulfil the optimum production output for the facility.
99% of planning and work was done on site and everything was bespoke to fit. Integration with current systems included field wiring.
S4 Engineering supplied new compressors and managed site services to make sure the building and existing plant could cope with the new power, water and gas requirements.
The result: Factory capacity significantly expanded
Thanks to our clever designs and installations, the capacity of the factory considerably improved and expanded. This meant Tims Dairy could churn out even more of the nation’s favourite Greek family yogurt and kefir, leading to growth in capacity for the business.
Tims purchased repurposed used plant which made it much more cost effective, and were very satisfied with the service and outcome we provided. They were even more impressed with how our work didn’t impact their operations during this monumental transition for the business.
