The brief: To supply and install 1500kg scrape surface with a steam and cooling jacketed vessel
An established soup and sauce manufacturing company approached S4 Engineering with a clear brief: to design, supply and install a single 1,500-litre jacketed industrial cooking kettle, along with associated systems. We worked closely with the manufacturer to engineer a solution that met their every need.
The solution:
As with any installation, there’s much more involved than simply supplying the cooking kettle. A variety of other systems have to be put in place to make it work – and to ensure it links up seamlessly with other elements of the production process.
In terms of the kettle itself, we opted to manufacture its interior from type 316 stainless steel for strength and longevity. It was polished to a 240 grit sanitary finish (0.5 Ra). Meanwhile, the exterior was wrapped in type 304 stainless steel with a semi-delux buff finish.
Designed and stamped for up to 4 Bar (g), the jacket featured a spiral wound bar to enhance the flow of the client’s chosen cooling medium. For improved longevity, we also coated the jacket with anti-chloride barrier paint.
The kettle itself was rated for full vacuum and up to 0.5 bar (g) of pressure. Mounted with three load cells, it incorporated an inclined scraping agitator with a 5.5 kW drive motor, resulting in an operating speed of 34 rpm at 50 hz. The system is, however, capable of up to 50 rpm.
Constructed to PD5500: 2012 Category 3 regulations, the system carries full UKCA certification.
The result: Highly efficient and durable industrial cooking kettle equipment
Our team completed the £600,000 project to the high standard we’re known for, satisfying the requirements of yet another customer. We were delighted with the end result, as was the client. Learn more about the details of the project by downloading the case study PDF below.
